What's in my handbag today???

Hello all!

I thought I'd do a little post about what I've currently got in my handbag.

I like to keep the contents down to a minimum as much as I can - I've had a major issue with my shoulder in the past and I certainly don't want a repeat performance of passing out in the bathroom and smacking my face on the basin again due to the crippling pain!!!

My current bag of choice (although I change it fairly regularly depending on my outfit or my plans for the day!) is my grey Betty Barclay shopper. It's PU rather than leather, which makes it fairly light to carry. It also has an 'across the body' strap but it's quite a large bag so I rarely use that. I believe the RRP is £98 but I paid £29.99 in good old local TK Maxx. Here it is...

As you'll see, it has a rather scary psychedelic lining!  There's a large full-length zipped pocket down the middle, plus a mobile phone and purse pouch at the front.

You seriously wouldn't believe how many handbags I own. My handbag obsession is worse than my Filofax one!

And here are the contents...

From top left to right, it have my:
  1. Kindle in clear pencil case to reduce bulk & weight (check out my post here);
  2. Slimline Damson Adelphi Filofax (check out my post here);
  3. Tula leather make-up bag (with slimmed-down contents);
  4. Mini pack of wipes (I have a 6 year old daughter - 'nuff said!);
  5. Mini pack of tissues;
  6. Raspberry Tula purse (check out my post here);
  7. Umberella (a lady should never be without);
  8. Mini tube of Nivea hand cream;
  9. My pass for work;
  10. Mini zipped purse/make-up bag (containing plasters, antiseptic wipes, paracetamol etc);
  11. Mobile phone;
  12. Camera case containing a small Canon camera;
  13. Car and house keys;
  14. Emergency snacks.
I'm not one for packing my bag full of unnecessary stuff but I absolutely must have the minimum, and this is it.

How about you? Do you slim down the contents of your handbag or does everything but the kitchen sink go in there??? Do you have any tips for keeping your bag as light as possible???

  1. Hi, I found your Blog as I read your comment on Filo-Manie.

    The inventary of my handbag is the same, but I don't carry a camera. And the Filofax is a compact. I do't like to carry a "cobblestone" with me ;-).

    1. Hi wolfwalkerin!

      The weight of our handbags is probably very similar then, with my Filofax being a slimline (ie: lighter than your compact) but with the addition of my camera (which is actually only very small and light).

      I really don't like lugging around a lot of weight but absolutely must have certain things with me at all times!

      Thanks for reading, come back soon!

  2. I try to keep mine down to a minimum because of weight, i've been thinking about a "What's in my handbag post" so maybe i'll share very soon. I find if I carry loads of things like make up, body cream etc I never use it so I stick with filofax, purse, kindle or book, depending on where i'm going my ipad, and a pencil case, a small body spray/perfume and a lip gloss!! And my Iphone of course, can't leave the house without that :)

  3. Hi Alison!

    Is your iPad heavy? I've just got a dongle to go with our netbook so I might start to take that to the odd place with me. Certainly not everywhere though!

  4. Love your posts and I'm following! I'm crazy about purses too, always have been! My problem IS that they are always too stinkin' heavy, but I want everything I have in them. A solution would be wonderful to lighten them up. I use bags in my bags. Actually I should show you that on my blog as a future post. It kind of helps me when I'm at the store, I don't need to take my whole purse in, just a certain bag would go with me. A much lighter bag.

  5. Aw thanks Mary!

    That's a good idea. I might actually try that for work - a big bag with my snacks and flask and a smaller bag inside to take out to lunch. Good idea!

    On the subject of handbags, I've spotted this on ebay and might give it a try:

    Could be quite useful for my bigger bags!

    Thanks for reading! X

  6. I love how you kept things simple. :) Don't be like the others who require a handbag insurance to keep their expensive stuff safe. Just keep only the most important things like you did. =)
